:: Monday, April 29, 2002 :: Finally can i tell you something? I hate IIS. I had my downed pics server up and running the next day, but i couldn't get IIS to cooperate. SO not intuitive. freakin' microsoft. anyway... it's back up. just not the way it was. organizing it now, adding indexes with thumbnails, so beware of linking. ugh, i'm going to have to change all the links on my blog now too. woopee.:: Sunday, April 28, 2002 :: In Response... to Praxis Loki's post, i felt i should say something, to at least add to the thought-pool. or something. It's not necessarily an opinion of mine, just another perspective i was given while an econ major. I remember a particularly dick of a prof in my econ curriculum (a whole other story) that mentioned that these protests of unfair labor practices in 3rd world countries were ignoring the fact that these practices exist because of the natural economic law of supply and demand. These 3rd worlders have a comparative advantage to 1st worlders such as the US. That advantage is a supply of cheap labor, where the price we pay for their work is not all that horrible, considering the standard and price of living in said country. Just cuz what we pay them we could do nothing with in the US, that same amount of money can sustain them in their countries. Of course, this statement opens up a whole barrel of other arguments, but we won't go there. I'm just stating a perspective, not nec. my own. I feel a lot like Praxis, apathetic, living the way I've always been living, ignoring the outside world cuz it doesn't affect me until they start throwing planes at our buildings. but then, just as the terror subsides, life goes back to normal, as if nothing had really happened. seriously speaking, i don't really feel all that different after 9/11, and i feel like shit about it. or do I?:: Friday, April 26, 2002 :: Where Art Thou, Treo? still nothing. i think she left for good. on a happier note: UBERFEST! TONITE!:: Wednesday, April 24, 2002 :: Heaven's Alive!! I got my parksaber! beautiful handle, wonderful blade-light visuals. The saber type i got was the echelon. now all me and fil need are to get some practice stix and go to town. We are so gonna be ready for the line this year. ok, time to go to bed and stuff. finally home after a month-long excursion called apa month, ugh:: Monday, April 22, 2002 :: hey, it was a great weekend tho! no joke, it was a kick-ass weekend. FUSION went off like a charm, mad props to all involved. It was beautiful! people were going butt-wild! and esp. D6. of course :) they were the loudest ones there! Guess they were just getting back at us for UMCP's PCN. Other than the time getting bumped back due to weather changes, everything went pretty damn well. of course, i lost my Treo then too, but my wallet was still where i left it; i had to take all my stuff out of my pocket for my part in the binisuan dance we did, but the Treo was gone :( suspended the service for now, so that hopefully it'll turn up. I miss her already.... i hope she was just gone for some air, a mini-vacation or something. Honey, if you read this, I'm sorry for everything. Please come back! I love you... great surprise party for maria after the show, she was so out of it, she really thought she was going to go clubbing! haHA! saw scorpion king this sunday w/ the usual group, and that was some nice, mindless fun. then we prepared for the coming of Combate Eskrima Orehenal, who will be doing a demo and seminar tonight at 6p in kay! Very cool guys, Spunk and Stile(sp?). Learned a lot, laughed a lot, didn't get any sleep. but it was cool. can't wait till tonite! you all should be there too! What's eskrima? it's the ancient, deadly martial art of the Philippines, based on a fighting style adapted to oppressive situations. Attacks are usually close due to the situations they were developed in such as being tied-up or not having traditional weapons, instead having to rely on wooden sticks and knives. lots of knives. an incredible art-form that this group is struggling to keep alive. come see! Good people, lots of fun, and very practical ^_- Classic Monday ah, no sleep, first crap day of the week, rainy as hell, cold as hell. get to work, find a notice from dmv telling me to "slow down" and that i am now part of the "Virginia Driver Improvement Program" which i believe just means they want to warn me that i'm fast approaching suspension of driver's license, and last but not least, got a call from a creditor telling me that my credit is being affected because someone i had a joint account w/ back in the day(but is now totally under their name as agreed) is now 3 months overdue on their payment. go mondays.:: Thursday, April 18, 2002 :: Karaoke....Again I wonder if I might be getting sick of the Champps venue. I mean, there are good people there and we're in tight w/ the MC and the DJ, but... i dunno. i want myra, steph, doug, phil, and a whole other bunch of underage friends to join us! Maybe we should change it to someone's place, now that jason and I have karaoke machines :) well, we'll see. Maria's b-day was yesterday, and we got the whole bar to sing her Happy Birthday; she was tres embarrassed ^_^ Won random again last night. You'd think i'd be more happy what with being hundred dollars richer and all, but i'm not sure i like what the competition is making me feel or think. I just want to sing! but no, i feel like i need to be validated or something now...must stop train of thought. It was a GREAT time last night. the bar was hoppin' that night, and lots of good karaokers went up last night, whew. some crazy women competition up in here. marinel didn't get to compete again, but they let her do a song while they were tallyin' the judges, which was really nice. all in all, a good night tho :) harry teeter rocks! A Moment of Silence Can we have a moment of silence for the demise of anime.american.edu? ... thank you. FYI, all my pics were on this server, so hopefully i can find all my backups of those photos and bring them back up sometime soon. also, jungfroid will not be up on aim for a while too :( This was also my work machine, so this is double/triple-suck. "This was suck, so bad.":: Wednesday, April 17, 2002 :: Workee-workee just fyi, i started another blog, one for work, at http:\\gunbusted.blogspot.com. I figure, so much happens at work that i don't write down and it seems a waste, plus it's a great way to let off steam. And isn't unprofessional to not have one to record the events of the day? yeah, that's the ticket. So, you'll get to see where the university's money goes :) up until i fall asleep in a phone closet or something.... -_-;;:: Tuesday, April 16, 2002 :: Is It Only Monday? *sigh* gonna be a crazy week, what with last minit preparations for the culture show this friday and then the eskrima demonstration and seminar next monday. Lots of things to prepare for, tho, for this saturday. 2-5p in the amphitheatre everyone! hope to see everyone there :) Lots of dancing, singing, and asian food...mmmmm :) was a busy weekend too. went to see amelie with the dance troupe right after practice on fri, and boy, did we need that pick-me-up :) split up right afterwards, so didn't get to talk to our hardcore hopeless romantic (hr), Myra about it until later. :( oh well. got to talk to everyone else, so is all good. Looked like everyone enjoyed it! I'm glad too, cuz it's my most favorite, favorite, favorite french film :) heheh. practice again on sat, then went to the umcp fca culture-nite presentation of "The Picture." Very professionally, tastefully done show, incorporating the dances, singing, etc that you would expect from a flip-culture show, with the background story of filipino-american history, as well as present. One moment, you're having a good time with the show and then the next, which went way deep and emotional, ....whew, i know people will agree with me, was quite....powerful...*sniff* mad props to umcp for a job, WELL DONE. :) so, after everyone grabs their table's fishies and congrats were passed around, our group, consisting of jack(umcp, pimp-extraordinaire), marisa(g-dub, flip-fetishist), teck (inchik, numba wan), neeners, marinel (singer/dancer), maria (ps2 afficionado), steph (pda luvah), doug (pda luvah), phil (tinikling-in-the-mem-brane), sans mike surreal, and his pal from back home, pat (can you kick this high?), who had to get somewhere, went all the way to wheaton for a bite of EXCELLENT chinese cuisine at paul kee, in the middle of the night! i think i ate for like 3 hrs. good times, good times. here, check out the pics.:: Monday, April 15, 2002 :: :: Friday, April 12, 2002 :: "Shhh...I'm Working Here...zzzZZZ" ok, this is getting ridiculous. when no one checks on whether i'm at work on time or not, i start totally taking advantage. At first, it was just a few innocent little minutes late. but now, it's....well let's just say it's bad. I think today may have been the worst. And I still don't get in trouble! I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not. No wonder I love my job..... -_-;; Went to Modern last night for an Asian/Flip Professionals happy hour mixer. So, this is where all those people my age have gone to when they were finished w/ college ^_^;; I was wondering where they all went! Very nice to see people again i haven't seen in years. I think i'm gonna have to become a regular at these get-togethers. Danced the night away again that our passengers had to pull me and marinel forcefully off the floor to leave. girl, you know how to move! I need to learn more moves, specifically partner dancing, like....salsa!! ok, got to do 7 hrs of work in 2 hrs again. uh... i mean half an hr... -_-;;;;;;; :: Thursday, April 11, 2002 :: *insert guttural vociferation/howl here* the world is going by at a fevered pace, and i'm caught in its wake. so much going on this month with apa month and all the events here at au, and then with all the social events i keep up with, karaoke, piu, happy hours, hanging out w/ the A-PAC-ers, and then all the drama within, it's enuf to make one want to scream and tear their hair out. *sigh* A little personal and interpersonal growth, never hurt no one. well, actually, yeah it hurts, but they're growing pains. it's all good. It's all about communication folks! props to you, for understanding that before i nagged you about it(you know who you are). Made my bi-weekly trek back home to shower and pick up more clothes and documents early this morning; thanks for your patience 'gloom and weng! sorry i took so long. barely drove back up alive, i mean it was 5 in the morning. "Oh, i can close my eyes here in a sec; it's just a stop light...almost stopped...zzzZZ...*girly scream*" Nisa understands only too well this trend in sleep deprivation. Other possible causes of my wacked-out perception of reality: 1. weaning off medication/out of medication 2. Teck's painfully slow coming to terms w/ his attraction to me 3. drama 4. fitting 7 hrs of work into 2 hrs well, all clean again, and getting as much done as I can. good karaoke last nite, same usual suspects, sans a few. tried to de-stress with 2 mango madness drinks at the same time. Either they're weak as hell, or my tolerance is reaching an all time high, cuz i didn't feel a damn thing. damn. i'm not a cheap date anymore. sang This I Promise You, by who other than N'Sync. Love that song, always did. didn't get a rousing applause or nothin', but weng and 'gloom were their usual supportive selves and thought that i sounded MUCH better; i was opening up more, or something. tks guys ^_^ speaking of kick-ass singing. Dahil Sa Iyo is sounding EXCELLENT. i hope people come to see us perform the song acapella on the 20th! See myra? we NEED YOU! Bustah-Machine is shiny ^_^:: Wednesday, April 10, 2002 :: Random AIM Quotes Nina says that it'd be funny if the camera caught you sleeping craig want 3000GT VR4 Spyder what type of laptop? brand? a grey one. tell (her) how good i am in bed stop looking at PORN! ooh, naked flips! mmm... O:-) Eliot Chang, Good-looking Bastard i'll tell ya; he was a lot better this time around than when he was at AU about 3 or so years ago. With newer material and quite possibly a better audience! he had the tavern rotfl. good stuff. and he kept to his new stuff, no "it's too late" revisitation, to the chagrin of his older fans. I half expected him to make fun of us older folk when he asked if anyone was here when he last performed. guess it woulda been too easy. got lots of pics of people dying in their seats :) get this. he totally floored everyone who stayed after his comedy show when he facilitated a mini-dialogue of a workshop he does on Asians in the Media. Very provocative stuff. He's here to open our minds, man! The guy is well-spoken and i'm proud to have him represent the asian community. Nice rounded "thing" he had going there last night. Afterwards, we still proceeded to dance practice :P so late! but, we got some tinikling and binisuan in anyway. culture nite is only over a week away, yikes! so hardcore, we broke 2 glasses already :/ thanks teck, for cleanin' up ;) then we practiced singing in the kay chapel, since we were there already and we know how good the acoustics are there. oh yeah, we sound great in there! but, we also sound like shit if we're off; everything's amplified ^_^;; started getting loopy around 3am, so we headed back to the dorms via car; yes, from kay to hughes. shut up! :P got a parking ticket, goddammit, i didn't know where i parked was a fire lane; it wasn't clearly marked, hopefully they'll give me a break. "I had to park there cuz we had big props to bring into practice at kay that night. we're practicing for our culture show later on this month." think they'll buy it? maybe they'll feel like they have to sanction our "culture-nite" or fear being branded as a racist or something, eh? hey, anything to not pay that damn 60$. yeah, again, i didn't go home. homer, da bantuten(the smelly)! hey, it was late, so i get more sleep this way. tks for housing me guys! ugh, back to work.:: Monday, April 08, 2002 :: Got My Parksabers Belt and Belt-clip ok, so this whole post doesn't have to do w/ the title, but i don't have any other ideas right now for a title. This is just a weekend update, basically. Oh, maybe i should've named this post, "Always Waking up Late" or something to that effect, or, "Stinky Homer Who Hasn't Taken a Shower in 3 days". Anyways, i'm glad i got that car charger for my lovely Treo, cuz i spend so much goddamn time in the car that i woulda ran out of battery long before i got back to any of my desks or places that had a charger. was supposed to wake up for the cherry blossom parade early sat. morning, but i shoulda known. We never got up for it. I got up earlier than everyone else, since i knew i was going to d&d right after the parade and ian was gonna be needing a ride to it too. everyone else got up at like, what, 3pm? goddamn. so i play a good campaign that day, and my monk character was rockin' the hiz-owse. I never roll well for my attacks during fights, but this time, i was doin' pretty well. Well, except that if anything, i was the one getting poisoned, etc. but, he survived to fight another day! Then went back to dc to make the GU AsiaFest, and was it amazing. nothing short of. Very well put together, and much representation from all the asian clubs on campus. very nice. one particular highlight of note: Crouching Tiger/Hidden Matrix. not that that was the only good thing to see. good god jeff, you're like a one-man show! I notice that a lot of people are dancing/performing for several groups at a time, which i thought was a great show of unity. Made me feel inadequate :P all we got going at AU is really a "Barkada/SASA" asia culture nite -_-;; oh well. we're not here to compare! anyways, too pooped to go to the after-party, went w/ g-dub peeps and friends to eat at georgetown cafe. good to see everyone again, and meet new ones. then we crashed at teck's, planned to go early to shop the next morning around 9 or so, and me to go home and shower, pick up clothes for the fashion show run-thru, etc. Got up at 1pm. not even daylight savings to blame for this one. barkada dance practice, then ran to mcdowell hall to try and find the fashion show run-thru, couldn't find it, left to pick up nina's sis w/ only maria cuz nina and teck were busy getting voted to be secretary and pr respectively for the dc rotary club (congrats!), came back to have dinner w/ au peeps at what else, georgetown cafe again, lol. then finally came home. to sleep. and shower. good night :):: Friday, April 05, 2002 :: No More Midnight Cheesesteak Had a particularly bad nightmare last night. I don't usually get nightmares, but this one significantly freaked me out. My dad was trying to kill me. With a knife. He cut me a couple times, I think, and so i went to the doctor's to get checked. Doc gave me some ineffectual advice, and then he evaluated my dad, and then let him go. I was watching my back for awhile, and I found myself waking up in the dream in bed with this girl i had a crush on. She told me she was gonna kiss me on the lips so that i could take my mind off of stressin' about my dad killing me. So we kissed, and it worked. I wasn't worried about my dad anymore, but began thinking of her as my g/f. Then I woke up realizing it was all a dream and that fortunately my dad wasn't out to kill me. Then I realized that I hadn't hooked up with any girl. And finally, I realized that I was late for work again. *sigh*:: Wednesday, April 03, 2002 :: New Friends It is rare in life when one finds a group of friends that you just click with, and you want to spend all your time w/ them if you could. I'm experiencing one of those rare times. I'm blessed with good friends. You know who you are. :) LUCKY! the other nite, as usual, i was too sleepy to drive all the way home, so I pulled off the highway into an exit and slept in the car in an empty parking lot. I left the car on for the heater, cuz it was cold, but I knew i had to get going soon, cuz I didn't have much gas left. *snore* woke up 3 hours later, and the car was still on. YIKES. needle was totally flat on E. Turned off the car. CRAP. shouldn't have done that. cranked the ignition, it turned on again, whew. drove promptly to gas station across the street. made it. whew. filled up. My gas tank only takes 14 gallons. I filled up with 14.06 gallons. thank god i woke up when i did. Fil, Reporting In... "I have seen the first true signs of spring already....aw yeah." APA Month Kick-off I thought we had an official name for the kick-off of this month, but now i'm not sure. we just called it the "Kick-off". eh, whatever. good kick-off for all! the pros: -good performances by all, tinikling by myra and neal, clacking by doug and phil.....all barefoot on the hard-top street! -myra sang lovely with me, i hope everyone liked it. we sang saan kaman naroroon, which means, "whereever you may be" -picking on corner-girl, Janice, so naturally by the other 3 MCs, Neal, Teck, and me :) -advertised the whole month's events! -DDR---Jeff and Mike from GU came down and threw down, aw yeah -everyone coming together from AUASs, SASA, Barkada, ASA, etc. to help out on last minute preparations and logistics for the kick-off -good times and recognition was had by all despite the cons: -electricians didn't put out our electricity in front of the flag-poles. Had to spend 15 minutes on my cell to get them to do so. We couldn't just plug in something from inside MGC to outside, it's not allowed. so, they had the master electrician come back and give us an extension cord... a freakin' ext. cord. we could've done that. *sigh* -no mat to put under the dancers to step on! but they trudged on! go guys...and gal ^_- -flyers said the month was cosponsored by SASA and Barkada...that's it. what about ASA, AUASs, etc? oops. oh well, they got rid of it altogether. -couldn't get PIU/KIU to work due to various technical problems all in all tho, successful kick-off! Thanks to Janice for being a sport, and Myra, really girl, you can sing, and if I say anything otherwise, i MUST be kidding, cuz you can't sing bad! it's just not in your blood :) Navy Dream Dreamt i was in the navy last night. Not sure if it really was the navy, but it seemed to be. I was like dropped into this situation where all of a sudden, I was supposed to be attending boot-camp, I was late, and we started running or something. We were in a a church or something like that, and I had to leave my stuff on the floor, I was so behind. whatever in the hell did it mean? Maybe i should try not to be so late all the time to everything, like work, practice, etc. or, maybe it just means i should shop again at Old Navy. yeah, that's it! Ongoing Shower Joke Bro: Hey, homes, mind if you leave the door unlocked while you shower so I can brush my teeth and stuff? Me: Yeah, sure. *shuffle* Me: Ok, i'm in. Bro: Uh, I don't trust you. Me: Dude, I'm in! Bro: I don't believe you! Me: Whatever. *Bro enters bathroom* Bro: AW, GODDAMMIT HOMER!
