:: Thursday, February 28, 2002 :: AIM 73% addicted to Instant Messenger. How about you? Weds Outings It's late ok? can't think of a better title. anyways... went out for some good ol' pho, a new place i didn't know of, Pho Hoa? forget how to spell the damn name, anyway, it was at Eden Center in Falls Church, right near 7 Corners. Very good shopping plaza, all sorts of Asian shops. Groceries, pastry shops, and loads of restaurants line the place. I think it was mostly Vietnamese. Still good tho. The pho had more value. Altho not served at the ideal eating temperature, as in the Cleveland Park pho place, you got more for your money. Large bowl was like 5 bucks, and it was a much bigger bowl, whew. Ate it all, of course :) Props to Marisa for showing me this place I'd never been to. Went to karaoke Weds as usual at Champps. Went w/ Nina, Teck, and of course Jason. Had a blast, even tho they started it way late due to a Maryland game(who the hell's watching anyway?). Only an hour for everyone to get their song on. Nina got grabbed by some guy while she was singing "How Do I Live", and Teck got groped! Jason was asked to dance, and me, well....oh well ^_- We got to sing our group rendition of "The Rose" by Bette Midler, which wasn't all that bad; we had the full range of vocals on that one. Nina got to sing her song and Teck got to sing one too, forget the name, but he started out too low, but once he got the right key, he was on. Place was jumpin' for that hour, and everyone seemed to have a good time. And now, i'm home, tired and just trying to get this in for some reason...zzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz:: Wednesday, February 27, 2002 :: Well, I Tried... Brother's finished the whole Cowboy Bebop TV series, but he watched most of it dubbed, so hopefully he will go thru with watching it all over again subbed. I mean, he can't miss out on Ed's voice! "nyah?" So, here I was scrambling to get the movie, once he finished the series, cuz he was feemin' for more bebop. He couldn't believe it was over, just like that. So, i finally have it, and struggling to decide whether or not i should watch it or get some much needed sleep, after midnight, my bro strolls in, and i had to show him at least the first scene. Well, that did it. Had to watch the whole thing. 3/4 of the way into the movie, i start getting sleepy and my eyelids got heavy, but i manage to keep watching. But, then i look over, and there's my bro Asleep. *sigh*:: Monday, February 25, 2002 :: :) I guess it's these ups and downs that make life interesting, eh? I need more cliches! w00t ok, i was off the deep-end, but i'm back now. It all makes for a great story. Shouldn't have bought the next 2 graphic novels of Gunsmith Cats, but since I've been meaning to, and i figured i needed some escapism, I did. so f that. Listening to: the Openings of Angelic Layer, Noir, and Fruits Basket. I Hope This Ain't Another One of Those Weeks... yup yup yup. uh....yeah.... Many of you know about my accident last november, which was the start of a wonderful week of paying out the ass for a rental(didn't have rental coverage then), and then paying to get my rental back from being towed, and then paying a parking ticket for the whole thing just last month... well, here we go again... I know I should've paid off my speeding ticket earlier this month after I got it, but I kept putting it off, and ended up waiting too long to be able to prepay it. So I had to go to traffic court this morning and pay more than if I had prepaid it. Yay. That ain't the half of it. So, I start driving back to work, all worried now about whether or not my insurance will want to keep me or just drop me, cuz I got a speeding ticket about a year ago, then I got into a 7k accident this past November, and then this ticket from last month. That's a 2 point demerit on my license only, thanks to not getting a ticket for the accident, but now add this one that I just paid off and now it's 2-4 points more....you see the dilemma. Oh, but that ain't all. On my way back to work, all thru my frettin' about insurance, I get ANOTHER GODDAMN SPEEDING TICKET. Officer informs me it'll be 4 points if I just prepay it, but it might go better if I go to court and we work something out, as long as I have a good driving record. HA! So I respond, yeah, that would be good, except that I'm just coming back from court for another speeding ticket. He doesn't miss a beat and mentions that it might be a good idea to take this traffic course which costs around 70-80 bucks, but might be worth it for the +5 points, which would help defray some of the ones I've accumulated. *SIGH* Maybe I should just move near a metro stop, sell the car, and fuggedabowdit. At least for a few years. Think about it, no insurance, no car payments, no state taxes, no gas, no maintenance, and for the love of god, no speeding tickets. Hey, i think i have something here.:: Friday, February 22, 2002 :: A Real Conversation A-- AUAHAHAHA.... [the auction for that damned yaoi doujinshi everyone keeps teasing me about is] over!! A-- :D J-- omedetou! A-- $37.50, almost 150% profit XD J-- but minus the teasing, it's like - 234.56. You're in the hole 197.06 A-- ..... *cry* J-- just trying to be realistic I Am A: Chaotic Good Half-Elf Ranger Bard Promises, Promises Just wanted to let everyone know that the web journal I promised about my Philippine vacation will be up shortly, seriously this time! I wanted to make a kick-ass page for it, but I think I find that Bloggin' it is much easier. Plus I'm a lazy-ass. so there. Tired, oh so tired.... I really should get more sleep. I think. I think maybe i just got lazier these past few months, but maybe cuz it's the medication. Ugh. Can't I get off of it already? Well, maybe not. Dr. says it's the only way the judge will let me mingle among the citizens. I guess I'll have to deal. or, maybe I shouldn't be coming home past midnight every night? nah, couldn't be that :) PIU rocks. 'nuf said. Jeff and Bridget are catching on quick. they've caught up w/ me in terms of skill already, and i'm still putzin' around Normal songs. yikes! It's like something doesn't click with the game, just like snowboarding didn't quite click right away; i used to be quick on physical stuff, things that necessitated good spatial awareness, but i think i've lost my ninja skills. Hmm. maybe i should work out again -_-;; anyhoo, went out to a diner again last night, cuz the AU "Buffet", altho being all you can eat, one can only eat so much nachos, bad sushi, and wings, ie FINGER FOOD. Granted, none of us who went were seniors, so really we were just crashing, so I guess we can't complain ^_- so then we headed over to 4912, not realizing what time it was and finding out that it was already closed. So we figured on ACD, cuz it's a diner, and should be open 24 hrs. It wasn't. Not during the weekdays anyway. WEAK-ASS. So we tried a third time, and good ol' Tastee Diner came thru! Felt bad for Katherine, who was trying to join us for a bit, but we kept changing venues on her. Participants: Raulie, Jason, Teck, Nina, Will, Janice, and Bridge. btw, Bridget, that was Janice, Katherine's little sister. Kat is ASA's president. We had a blast teasin' the hell out of Janice, poor thing. It's only cuz we like you! really! ^_^;; It's cool if you think the sorority gig is cool, it's all good. Hell, Jackie is in DG and we don't make fun of her. Oh wait, yes we do. :) Well, Janice was anxiously waiting for her sister to arrive and defend her, but as Teck said, "Won't she just join us in making fun of you?" Bridget now has an AUASs beat stick. Be afraid. Be very afraid. so, that's how i got home past 2 and am very tired cuz i got up around 6:30 this morning. And today is another long day. It's good to be young. shut up.:: Thursday, February 21, 2002 :: Found out last night that Jessica Calvello also voiced one of my favorite animes: Assemble Insert! She's the main character, Maron Namikaze. If you can get your hand on this, you won't be dissappointed; it's classic 2-parter. It's just off-kilter enuf that it's quite amusing. And that opening! love it. Altho, i have to admit, this is one of the lazier dvd's out there. Mostly due to lack of content, but the dvd menu looks nice. And the commercial clip makes up for it big time :) "Ipon!":: Wednesday, February 20, 2002 :: KATSUCON JOURNAL (CONT.) Motorola Talkabouts. They just simply are the best thing I ever bought. Neale brought his pair along to use while we worked the con, and I brought mine, along with a base station which we kept at video-ops, which kept squawking all our transmissions, to the chagrin of other staff. It was really useful to have it there, so those w/o talkabouts could get in touch w/ us in the field from the main office. It was like we had our own dispatch :) There were 2 dances, 2 nights in a row, Fri and Sat. I knew i should've gotten some rest, but I am a "prisoner of dance". Kinda like I'm just "like a singer!" We danced with a squid, but mostly it was a total raver, due to the glowsticks, music and the seizure-like dancing. One of the highlights was this raver guy who knew how to swing glowsticks on the ends of string, making it look like kata, smooth and with transitions to other motions; very impressive. And thank you, Trish, for bringin' the ol' liquid courage; i knew there was something missing at this party! Another highlight was when, on Sat night, DJ Rob played Bounce from my copy of Jason's Pump It Up! mix, and boy did the AUASs go crazy. You should've seen how high Fil jumped when he heard it come on. It was too cute. Peeps were looking at our group weird, since we knew all the lyrics....and it was in Korean.... ^_^;; DJ Rob loves PIU and wanted to get a copy of the CD i handed him, so I told him to keep it. :) Other Highlights: Be ph33rfu1. of this, this, that and the other. Oh, and don't forget this. OH! the horror. And they made them do it with a smile on their faces.... My favorite cosplays were all the Alitas 1 2 3, Resident Evil complete with herb!, and you can't forget Lisa^2's unique one. front/back:) Lisa^1 was also dressed up nicely as Subaru, but I didn't get a picture :( She was hanging w/ some other friends during the con, just like Rachel, most of the time. oh well, our loss! There was also: that guy from FFX in that hard in-game game uniform, who incidentally, i recognize as the same guy who has done Squall many times in the past; Some Invader Zim guy; Fruits Basket!; The minority Punishers!; Nausicaa, complete with blood-ridden dress! (The girl on the right I believe is from FLCL); These two always do Lupin and Fujiko....rowr; Bebop crew was lookin' good; Some guy from Macross/Robotech, and his rendition of the last time the character saw food(since he dies right after he tells it to go nowhere, he'll be right back); Cloak and Dag...er, I mean Vampire Princess Miyu and Larva; and these 2....but for no particular reason -_-;; To rest a little, we sat down at some empty tables in the Artists' Alley and had our own AUASs panel. As you can see, we were in the middle of a debate on whether or not Kenshin is a man. All in all, i believe we had a great time, my only regret is that we didn't all get to hang out together more! oh and that it finally ended. Then there was cleanup. :P More on that later. For all the pics I took, go to here. KATSUCON JOURNAL just got back from Katsucon, and it was a blast! about 6 hours, at most, of sleep the whole weekend. What a great way to feel high tho; once you've been up for like 18 hours or so, everything gets really funny. I couldn't stop laughing at vid-ops, it was great. So, basically, the whole con for me was just working, but it was great. I got to work with so many cool people, and meet new ones. Working consisted of keeping the video rooms running, and covering my shift and overlapping it w/ others. Again, the DVK(Der Video Korps.) worked together as a well-oiled machine and wowed the upper management of Katsucon. Again. We rock. DVK consisted of the staff of Craig as head, Dirk as his direct assistant, Ian, Chuck, Jason, Neale, and me, plus the countless number of volunteers we received from the con to help man the whole operation. Gophers of note, and by no means is this list exhaustive, Gregory, John, Mark?, Matt?, Michelle, Pam, etc. Please let me know if i forgot someone. I really do appreciate all the help we got, and i thank Craig for giving me the opportunity to prove myself to the con and the greater good! hehe. But, don't get me wrong, we didn't do all this for free; we got some mad loot for it. Volunteers got t-shirts, food, our gratitude!, etc, while the DVK got some crazy vids which we divvied up. Myself, I got tons of dvds: AMG! Movie, Jin-Roh, all of Black Heaven, Saint Tail's 1 and 2(which I traded out Love Hina for, sorry Raulie!), Assemble Insert, and a couple others I can't remember. Plus, I got a tape of Japanese Cosplayers and a episode of City Hunter on tape. We worked hard for this loot, believe you me. speaking of which, I was able to grab the eye of the tech group upstairs in main programming. i guess after i helped out w/ the region 2 dvd problem(which we fixed by just using my dvd-enabled laptop), not only did they make me an honorary member of their group (check out the sticker they put on my staff tag), Dr. Andy wanted to see if he could get me in on his group next year. I told him that my loyalties lie with Craig, but i'd be wiling to help out any way i can, of course. He was gonna be pitching an idea to the con chairs about having all of the tech groups together under one umbrella for increased customer satisfaction, turnaround, and response-time of tech-related problems, issues, etc. So, I guess we'll see. It was nice to be complimented as such :) notable quotes: "penis..." "Penis..!" "PENIS!!!!!" "This Sailor Venus, has a penis..." this next section, courtesy of Neale's memory: Homer "You could totally see the outline of his unit and it was like uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...!" Neale: *laugh!* *shiver!* "ugggh!" "Ew, this one's all dark and spooky. Let's go somewhere else!" --Sailor Moon girl to her male friend, after waiting in line to gain access to a sold-out screening of a film called "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust" Jason: (to Iron Artist veteran, Steve Bennett) "Look man, I don't know who you are..." Ian: "Duude, he spooged!" Dirk: "Every 5 minutes, somebody's pulling fruit out from somewhere!" Neale: (to Pam & Michelle) "I could totally tell when I first met you [two] that you weren't sisters..." Homer: (to Dirk) "You're the oldest, right...?" Craig: (after at least 24 hours without sleep) "...I just realized my name is Craig. And the only reason I know that is because it's written on my nametag." Jason: (grinning wide, calling the porn star guests by their first names) "She remembered me!" Jessica Calvello, voice actress: (removing everything from her purse, including porn boxed sets) "Uh, that's not mine!" (handing them to Homer) "It's my brother's!" (looking up and away) "I'm not into that sort of thing, you know!" Homer: (laughing) "I am!" Jessica Calvello: (to Homer, after doing autographs) "You can give those back now; those are mine!" Radio: "(static)...Lisa Ortiz..." Neale: "Sorry, didn't copy that. Programming 3? Over." Radio: "(static)...Lisa Ortiz..." Neale: "What about Programming 3? I couldn't understand you, you're breaking up. Over." Radio: "(static)...Lisa Ortiz..." Neale: "Salon 3? Over." Radio: "Will somebody PLEASE tell Neale about L-i-s-a O-r-t-i-z...?!!" Neale: "Something about a 'nice breeze'? Over?" Radio: "........!!!" An Australian patron staying at the hotel, upon observing otaku in costume: "That can't be healthy..." Fil: (dressed in a business suit, looking away) "No, probably not..." LOL Met Jessica Calvello, the veteran American dub voice for Mink in Dragon Half, in the concourse, Friday evening, i believe, and she was lost, looking for a guest panel. By the time we found the room she was looking for, it was long done. oh well. She complimented me on my eyes...teehee! "You've got really beautiful eyes." "Really? Thanks." *blush* Compliments aside, she was really cool to hang with and talk with. She really does love her fans, and from what I saw, the fans love her! She's cute, has an addictive personality, and cute! anyways, her stay was less than enjoyable, since she didn't get the best service from con staff at times, which is really regrettable. I hope she reconsiders and joins us again! Well, me and Neale will be talking about this to higher management, so hopefully, something can be done. She couldn't make it to the autograph session cuz it was too early and she had to check out of her room, plus she was dancing until 3am the night before; unfortunately, couldn't find her on the floor to join her then, oh well. Neale found her in the hall on sunday and brought her to me! so, i was able to get a cool sig on my staff tag. :) Neale was also able to get his Those Who Hunt Elves DVD signed too! Look how excited he was to get it :) Among the cool people i met, i also met Kawamura-san! Maria Kawamura, the original voice actress doing the voices of Naga in Slayers, and Jung Freud ^_^ in Gunbuster, i found to be the quintissential performer. She was incredibly adorable. You just wanna hold her, squeeze her, and call her George! And according to upper management, she was the only guest they've had that had a whole list of ideas that she wanted to do at the con. We were fortunate enough to see a few of those plans come to fruition. She held a mini-concert, right before the dance on saturday night, and I was able to para-para with them on that! I walked in on the rehearsal on friday, and I asked Pocky if they needed any more dancers, cuz they looked so cool behind her on stage dancing like idol-singers, and I was like, I can do that! I wanna do that! Pocky was like, "You want to dance? Sure!" w00t! so I got to dance w/ them that night after practicing for like 5 minutes. heh. It was a simple dance, so don't give me too much credit. Here we are right before practicing for the last time. Unfortunately, our time in the limelight was overshadowed by the onrush of like 50 fans who hit the stage when just the few dancers were supposed to. It almost turned real bad, as security tried to keep them off, including the dancers!, but it was cool, and Kawamura-san was real calm, and just played along. It was interesting, to say the least. What was cool was that the several times i met Kawamura-san during the con, she remembered me, cuz I think she remembered how enthusiastic I was to get the chance to dance with her, heh. She was really cool, and when I said good-bye to her after the end of the staff dinner on sunday night, I just went up and grabbed her and hugged her, thanked her for coming, and she said to me, no lie: "You my dog!" *sigh* we will miss her :) note: i was able to get my Perfect Gunbuster CD Collection insert signed by her :) more updates as I remember more of the con...
